This year, 2014, a paleo-ocean-climate investigation cruise has been successfully conducted in Indian ocean off West Sumatra for 10 - 29 December 2014. It is named BHENTIC CRUISE 2014.

On 09 November 2014, Launching of the Benthic Cruise was held in the Marine Geological Institute Research Facilities Building in Cirebon, West Java. The cruise is using Research Vessel of Geomarin III belongs to Marine Geologycal Institute. Benthic Cruise is one of implementation a collaboration Indonesia - China research on the topic of “Sedimentary Process and Paleoenvironmental Evoluction in the South China Sea and Adjacent Seas”.

In the launching ceremony, Dr. Susilohadi, Director of Marine Geologycal Institute (P3GL), emphasized the importance of this collaboration research. While Dr. Shengfa Liu, a representative of The First Institute of Oceanography – State Oceanic Administration of P.R. China (FIO-SOA) wishing of the fruitfull results from this first phase of cruise. The ceremony then launched by Dr. Budi Sulistiyo, Director of Research & Developent Center for Marine & Coastal Resources (P3SDLP) by a symbolical give a jackets to the cruise participants.

Collaboration between Research & Development Center for Marine & Coastal Resources and The Marine Geologycal Institute, is now almost Twelve (12) years old. While the Indonesia – China research collaboration is now almost 10 years running. Especially for the project of “Benthic Records of marine Environment, Climate, and Ecosystem in the Eastern Indian Ocean since the Last Deglaciation”, which known as “BENTHIC”, the first Workshop on Marine Geology and Marine Ecology was held in Hotel Blue Horizon, in Qingdao, 6 November 2013, organized by FIO-SOA. A big delegation from Indonesia was attended lead by P3SDLP, including Dr. Susilohadi, and Dr. Haryadi Permana the Director of Research Center for Geotechnology – Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI).
